mrs. noz and i saw the three burials of melquiades estrada last night. it's good. go see it.
the film is about a border guard who accidentally shoots a mexican laborer, the cover-up by local authorities of the shooting, and the efforts of mr. estrada's gringo friend who tries to bring some semblance of justice to the whole sordid affair. it's quite good, and doesn't give you all the answers. the end leaves you with plenty of questions to liven up the post-film discussion dinner.
"three burials" has the sort of fractured structure that is so popular with the kids today. scenes aren't always in chronological order and it jumped around a bit. if done badly, it can make the film difficult to follow. but the film isn't like that. i really never had any trouble keeping up. it only goes to show that having a fractured structure can really be quite effective if done properly. that's quite an accomplishment for tommy lee jones' directorial debut.
