ah crap. he was one of my favorites.
i got hooked on delta blues (that is, niger inland delta blues) when i visited mali in 2001 and toure was really the best. every once in a while when i am playing one of his CDs someone will come by and say "hey, that's the 'geoquiz' music from NPR's the world."
you've probably heard his music even if you don't know his name.
