woo-hoo! mercer human resources consulting did a study of cities world wide and philadelphia isn't on the list of the 50 most expensive cities.
actually, some of the cities that made it on the list are pretty surprising. i was in hanoi in 1999. if i remember correctly my hotel set me back about $3.00 (US) per night. and yet mercer says it's more expensive to live there than san francisco, chicago and miami. next time i'm in chicago, i'll have to figure out where i can get one of those dank, roach-infested super-cheapo rooms. in other words, sarah's place.
seriously, i never would have guessed that douala would be between dubai and los angeles on a list like this. i guess with a currency that is pegged to the euro and a sinking dollar, it's a little less surprising. but that can't account for all of it.
no wonder thom is getting the hell out of dakar and coming back to philly.
