i don't always post about holidays, but i always feel like i should write something about labor day. i am a labor lawyer, after all. and i also happen to really like the holiday, largely because it is the only day in the entire year that i get off from work and my wife doesn't. but also because it marks the end of summer, my least favorite season. i spend pretty much the entire the summer waiting for it to be over. by labor day, while it sometimes still feels like summer, at least i know that the end is near. (this year is particularly nice because it doesn't feel like summer at all. once the remains of ernesto made it through it's been gloriously mild here)
oh, to my foreign readers: yes, us crazy american celebrate labor day on the first monday in september, not may 1st like everyone else. we went with the early september day because the commies liked the other one too much.
and finally, my labor day post would not be complete without a link to my very first labor day rant. i seem to link to it every year. i wouldn't want to screw up the tradition.
