my day in prison

in all the legal dramas i've seen--we've all seen a ton of them--i've never seen one that included a document review. i dunno why not. it's quite cinematic. a young associate attorney sitting in a room filled with documents, reading, highlighting and organizing reams and reams of paper for hours on end. the high-impact boredom is so intense, you might even catch an action-packed bathroom break, or maybe a lost paperclip. or something like that.

anyway, that's essentially what i did all day today. except i was literally locked in a prison at the time. i can't really explain why, but i had to go to a prison to review some documents--mostly to flip through reams and reams of photocopies and to make sure that they really were the same as the originals provided by the other side. the prison had to let me do my review, but they weren't happy to have me there. so they took me to a room with the documents and locked me inside for most of the day. at least it cut down on the breaks so i got done in record time.

it was very strange though. when i was first escorted into the secured area this morning, the elevator door opened and inside were three guys in jumpsuits and a guard. they ordered the jumpsuit guys into the hall to wait for the next elevator so i wouldn't have to ride it with them. maybe they didn't want those guys to meet any more lawyers
