NIE

because i was away, i missed writing about the leaked national intelligence estimate concluding that the war in iraq increases the terrorism threat. this should really come as no surprise to anyone who has been following the middle east and has not signed a blood oath to bush's foreign policy. it is strange how a report can confirm what war critics have been saying all along, and yet i expect the anti-war majority will still be portrayed as a bunch of radicals on the margins of rationality. i dunno, maybe "irrational" is the new "correct."

in any case, the democrats are arguing the report demonstrates that this country needs new leadership. they're referring to replacing republicans, but it should also mean that democrats themselves need new leadership on the iraq war issue. as democrats use this report in their campaign, i hope it will also cause pro-war democrats to rethink their own pro-war positions. democratic strategist should at least realize that the report won't help their chances at all if the public is forced to choose between a pro-war republican and a pro-war democrat in the upcoming election.
