i went to the eye doctor yesterday. i'm not very good about going regularly. for some reason my eye doctor never sends me those little reminder cards like the dentist does. so i only go to the optometrist when i notice something wrong with my vision. a little while ago i realized that i could no longer read a sign that i'm pretty sure i could read before, so i decided to make an appointment. it took me another month two months to get around to making the call.
yesterday was the appointment (i think i mentioned that already). when i arrived they asked me when my last appointment was. i said "about a year ago," then i realized that i had these glasses in syria, so i said "maybe a year and a half." they rooted through their records and eventually found my file. my last appointment was in january 2004. hey, if they had the answer on file, why did they ask me the question?
it turns out that my prescription did need to be updated. the problem wasn't that my eyes had gotten worse, they've gotten better. my left lense is now too strong for my eye. when they told me about my super-regenerative powers i was really surprised. "eyes can get better?" i asked, "i thought that it's just one long downward slide into blindness." but no, this apparently happens sometimes. i haven't even been eating that many carrots.
