this latest school shooting seems to really be hitting people around here hard. this attack seems more gruesome than the last few school shootings. don't get me wrong, all school shootings are horrible, but this one seems to reach a new level of horror, little girls tied up and shot execution-style. also the victims were younger than in other shootings (between 6 and 13 years old). plus, it was an amish one-room schoolhouse, which makes the children seem even more innocent and defenseless.
and lancaster county isn't all that far away from here. when i got back from lunch today people in my office started pointing out all the helicopters zooming over the skies of philadelphia. they were medevacing some of the victims to philadelphia hospital. later in the day i had an eye doctor's appointment. one of the women who was trying to sell me some overpriced frames was from the area where it happened. her brother lives in bart township, where the shooter was from.
as it happens, the pennsylvania legislature was debating various gun control measures this week. some of the bills have already been rejected and before today i would have predicted that the rest would fail as well. but the election is only 5 weeks away and this is sure to have an impact.
