sy hersh's latest is up. (thanks og!) it does a good job portraying the mess that is the u.s.' current stance in the middle east; how the bush administration is gradually retooling our middle eastern policies so that it is centered on countering shia influence. the bizzare thing about all this is that while it is being done in the name of "the post-9/11 world" it is effectively putting the u.s. on the same side as al qaeda.
some day some future historian will try to make sense of how the u.s. would get attacked by al qaeda, and then use that attack as justification to target one al qaeda enemy after another.
