in which i pick one of my nits

not that everyone has to be a geography nerd like me, but i think that news organizations writing about a conflict should at least try to get the country right. i keep seeing articles about yesterday's clashes in the democratic republic of congo (aka congo-kinshasaa aka the country formerly known as zaire aka the belgian one) which include a map of the republic of congo (aka congo brazzaville aka the french one).

click on the above link. at the top you'll see this map:



it's a small map, but i think you can still clearly see the words "democratic republic of congo" off to the east of the highlighted country on the map. the first line of the article makes it clear that it's talking about the DRC.

i know, i know, lot's of people can't keep african countries straight, especially if they both are called "congo" and sit right next to each other. but it would be nice if they could stop putting up maps of the wrong country in an article that is supposed to inform the public about what is going on there.
