alternate reality

surprise! the order to purge federal prosecutors came from the top. as josh marshall points out, this means that at least three members of the bush administration lied to congress (which is a crime). one of those members is attorney general alberto gonzales.

another interesting angle to this prosecutor hubbub is just how central harriet miers is to all of this. apparently she came up with the idea of purging all u.s. attorneys and replacing them with party loyalists back in 2005. that same year she was nominated to the supreme court. her nomination that was later withdrawn. but it hadn't been, if she were sitting on the supreme court now, would we be talking about impeaching the first supreme court justice since justice chase?
