sign of the times

it appears that bush will pick a non-nutjob for attorney general and so conservative groups are already working to derail the nomination.

the democrats control congress, but there's still a sense that conservatives are the ones who are most effective at sinking bush's nominees. i guess everyone knows that when push comes to shove, the democrats will cave. it's their specialty.

UPDATE: glenn greenwald outlines mukasey's role in the padilla case. once again, he appears to be pretty conservative, but he's not a nut and at least he has a strong sense of independence and is willing to stand up to the white house if the law requires it.

which is all the more reason that i think his nomination (if it occurs) is doomed. the rightwing nutjob wing of the republican party won't stand for it.
