the malian military, frustrated with its inability to quell the tuareg rebellion in the north and blaming the democratically elected government of not giving the military the support it needs to beat the rebels, overthrows the civilian government and seizes power. the resulting disarray in the country causes further setbacks against the tuareg rebels.
so now the malian army is not just not getting the support it needs from the central government, but it also has a command structure in total disarray which is causing even worse outcomes against the rebels. oh and the u.s. is threatening to suspend its military aid money if democracy isn't restored. (it has already suspended its non-military aid). i'm sure that threat will also do wonders to resolve those support issues.
