i don't get why the NRA pushed for laws like the florida version of the castle doctrine. the NRA used to claim to be for assuring the rights to bear arms of law abiding citizens but supported efforts of responsible firearm use. now that it has essentially won that battle, nowadays it has been pushing for more lenient gun laws on just about everything. they're pushing for allowing people to have the legal right to carry concealed weapons in daycare centers ferchristsake!
so why are they doing it? if all the NRA's pet laws pass, it's only a matter of time before some nutjob takes advantage of them and does something horrible (maybe the trayvon martin killing is just such a case, or maybe we will all have to wait for more horror to come down the pike). and once that happens, the NRA and their wholly owned subsidiaries look like a bunch of assholes. that can't help the gun lobby's ultimate cause of keeping firearms legal for law abiding citizens. have they gone so totally wingnut they can't see the forest for the trees anymore?
