maybe never

i don't find this chart to be amazing at all. most people don't follow politics or the supreme court that closely. there's nothing wrong with people being interested in other things. besides, in most people's lives the name of the current chief justice is nothing but a trivia question.

the survey result fits nicely within the beloved "the american public is stupid" genre. but if you're going to contribute to that important body of work, you should pick a topic that actually matters to people who might have different interests than you. as chief justice, roberts is a major figure if you follow the supreme court. and glenn howard is a major character if you follow competitive curling. neither of those facts affect the day-to-day life of the average american. it's no stupider to not know who roberts is than it is to not know who howard is.
