the vatican is cracking down on a group of nuns in the u.s. this line really jumped out at me:
if you look at the bible, there's a whole lot more about poverty and economic injustice than there is about abortion or gays (abortion isn't mentioned at all in the bible, and the catholic church didn't completely decide it was anti-abortion until 1886). how can the church justify its current priorities?
once again, i'm not catholic. this really isn't any of my business. but if i were catholic, reading stuff like this would make me not want to be catholic anymore.
Her group was also cited in the Vatican document, along with the Leadership Conference, for focusing its work too much on poverty and economic injustice, while keeping “silent” on abortion and same-sex marriage.it's like i asked last december: "how exactly did the catholic church, which on paper at least is about a whole variety of issues, become little more than an anti-abortion/anti-gay organization in this country?"
