it's always a bit callous to be mourning the destruction of historic buildings when people are also dying. but the images of destroyed buildings in syria really make the tragedy hit home for me. i've seen many of those places with my own eyes. it's crazy to think of all the death and destruction that is happening on the some of the very same spots where i once stood.
