while i didn't see the memorial, it seemed fitting to see lincoln in mankato on the eve of the 150th anniversary of the largest mass execution in american history, killings that were approved by president lincoln, not that the execution was mentioned in the film.
(by the way, even though i had been going to south-central minnesota for years, i wasn't aware of the bloody history of the place until i heard the TAL episode "little war on the prairie" a few weeks ago. check it out of you didn't catch it already)
