Believe it or not, I am not in favor of canceling midterm elections

Two people I never heard of publish an opinion piece in the New York Times advocating that the midterm elections be scrapped. The piece is clearly marked "opinion" and from the note at the bottom it looks like one of authors is a college student.

For some reason, a bunch of people on the right think this means that liberals in general (or at least the NYT as a stand in for the liberal media) want to cancel tomorrow's election. In fact, there doesn't l seem to be anyone else calling to change the frequency of the vote. So what does this have to do with actual liberals like me? Do they really believe this stuff or are they just getting their undies in a bunch over this because they need something to be pissed off about?
