Blowback

I have a few friends who are permanent residents (that is they hold "green cards" and are entitled to live and work in the U.S. indefinitely, but they are not U.S. citizens). The fact that Trump's #MuslimBan, at least initially, applied to Green Card holders completely freaked them out and several are now applying to be U.S. citizens. None of these friends are from any of the seven countries covered by the ban, nor are they from any countries that are likely to be subject to the ban in the future (they are German, Israeli, and Spanish), but just the idea that their ability to travel could be taken away with the stroke of a pen has (understandably) terrified them.

I think that is probably happening not just to the permanent residents that I happen to know, but to permanent residents across the U.S. So I suspect there will be a surge in citizenship applications in the near future, which means we will have a bunch of new voters in the next election.None of them are going to vote for Trump or his party.
