Can we just reflect on how totally fucked up yesterday was?
On the day after President Trump fired the FBI Director that was investigating his administration's possibly improper ties to Russia, the President met the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in the Oval Office. From the get-go that meeting was unusual just because usually Presidents don't have private meetings with foreign ministers, although it is not unheard of. It was also unusual because Trump met the Russians at the request of Vladimir Putin, although the President would not explain the purpose of the meeting.
One of those two individuals was Sergey Kislyak, the contact person on the Russian side for many of those allegations of improper ties. In fact, it was meetings with Kislyak (and lying about it) that got Michael Flynn fired from his position as national security advisor. Trump's meeting with the Russians was a private and closed door, with no American press allowed. However, the Russian government-run news media was allowed in. The fact that Russians, including photographers, were given such access to the oval office alarmed U.S. Intelligence officials.
And again, what makes this meeting even more crazy is that Trump went ahead with it on the very day that everyone was talking about the investigation into his improper contacts with the Russian government.
Well, that wasn't the only think they were talking about. People were also comparing Trump's decision to fire Comey to Nixon's Saturday Night Massacre. With all these comparisons between the current administration and Nixon, what did Trump also do? He met with Henry Kissinger.
