While this article does demonstrate that the Saudi government under Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman is little more than a cabal of corrupt thugs who don't have any sense of the rule of law, the only reason this is really news is because Prince Salman imprisoned, robbed, and tortured otherwise rich and powerful people. If he followed his predecessors' script of ignoring the rich and well-connected while coming down hard of regular Saudis and resident migrants it would not have made the New York Times.
