The President’s “
snap yes” is a reminder that it probably doesn’t matter that his administration has not filled so many otherwise important posts. Yes, we lack and ambassador to South Korea, and various other posts that could advise a president about the complexities of the Korean situation are unfilled. But even if we had them, Trump is not going to take their advice. He’s just going to say yes to whoever is able to get close enough to flatter him in person.
These positions are often described as “critical” but they are only important if we had a normal decision-maker in charge. With Trump, I guess there’s no need to pay a bunch of well-qualified experts who he wouldn’t listen to anyway.
