The Daily Beast looks at Jefferson Van Drew, the one democrat in the House actively speaking out against impeachment:
I think Van Drew's omission was just a mistake, but it is an illuminating mistake.
“Unless we have something that without a doubt is an impeachable offense, which we know is treason, high crimes and misdemeanors, we don't have any positive proof of that,” he said on Friday. “We have some unseemly, you know, statements, some things that we don't really like or enjoy.”Actually, Mr. Van Drew left out the word. Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution says the grounds for impeachment are "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." (emphasis added) As Josh Marshall pointed out, the read out of the call with Ukrainian President Zelensky establishes that the President offered foreign aid to Ukraine if it opened a criminal investigation of Hunter Biden, which meets the definition of "bribery" under federal criminal statutes.
I think Van Drew's omission was just a mistake, but it is an illuminating mistake.
