I gotta admit Biden is turning into a much better President than I imagined he would be. As my long-time readers will remember (yes, both of you), Biden was one of my last choices in the primary. I was really hoping he wouldn't run at all. I had a bunch of reasons for not liking Biden. One, that I think he is too old, is still an issue (tempered a bit by knowing who his Veep is). But mostly I thought he would govern as a third term for Obama, maybe even an even more moderated version of Obama. Don't get me wrong, I viewed that possibility as a vast improvement over Trump, but I just thought (and think) that the U.S. could do a lot better. Especially right after Trump, I thought America would be ready for a much further left presidency if the Trump successor could ride the backlash against the extreme unpopularity of Trump. It seemed like the appear of Biden during the primary was mostly to undermine any chance of a further left presidency. In fact, that is pretty much what Biden was running on.
It is still very early, but Biden has already vastly exceeded my expectations. The scope of his executive orders, his unprecedented presidential statement in favor of the Amazon unionization campaign, his firing of Peter Robb, and the surprisingly progressive American Rescue Plan Act, plus just the fact that Biden was willing to shove it through without buying into the bullshit requirement that it would have to be "bipartisan" all went well beyond what I expected from a Biden presidency.
