stolen

this article discusses something i think is really bizarre: many cars used in iraqi car bombings were stolen in the u.s. it just seemed so ridiculous. there are cars in iraq. if you wanted to blow one up, why not steal a local car? it seems to be quite a bit easier than shipping an american car from 1/3 of the way around the world. the article does at least partially explain the phenomenon:
Terrorism specialists think Iraqi insurgents prefer American stolen cars because they tend to be larger, blend in more easily with the convoys of US government and private contractors, and are harder to identify as stolen.
but that doesn't mean that i still don't think it's bizarre. aren't there big SUVs in kuwait?
