checky update

the check box at the top of the page should be working now.

as both of my long-term readers will remember, last month i installed a check box at the top of my page to let you decide whether you wanted to open links in new windows. after that, there was some debate about whether checked or unchecked should be the default--actually, there was no real debate. everyone wanted it, i was just too fucking lazy to deal with it. but eventually i did (thanks to a little unexpected free time and the free wifi at a florida hotel).

except i didn't. for the past three weeks when you loaded this page the check box appeared to be checked, it just didn't act like it was. to get it to work you had to uncheck it, and then check it again.

which is what i've been doing ever since every time i visit this place, which is usually several times a day. it didn't take long before i got sick of all the checking and unchecking, though it did take several more weeks for me to get around to dealing with it.

but now it's dealt with. thanks to steve bates the checky box now acts like it's supposed to act when you first visit this page. no need to uncheck and check (unless you really want to). and, of course, if you would really rather not have links open in a new window ever at all, you can always uncheck the box.

i am eternally grateful to steve for all of his help. everyone reading this should go visit the yellow doggerel democrat all the time from now on. yeah, both of you.
