blogisphere blogosphere

does anyone know how the "blogisphere" got to be a sphere?

there's nothing round about it. at least not as far as i can tell. i realize when talking about something like this you need to use some kind of metaphor. i'm just not clear what the "sphere" part is supposed to stand for.

what is the origin of the term? even wiki failed me on this one.

UPDATE: i'm a moron. i spelled the friggin word wrong.* thanks to MatthewB for pointing it out. as he notes in the comments, wiki has an entry if you spell it "blogOsphere." the entry explains the word origin as follows:
The term bears a similarity to a much older word, "logosphere". In the Greek roots, "logo" means "word," and "sphere" can be interpreted as "world," resulting in "the world of words," the universe of discourse. The term also recalls the pronunciation and the meaning of the term "noosphere."
note to self: next time i am shocked that wiki is missing an entry for something that seems to be right up its alley, i should check my spelling before posting about it.
