last week i posted about the wall that the u.s. military was building around al-adhamiya. at that time, the u.s. military had started construction, but maliki ordered the construction be halted. that raised the ongoing issue of who is really in charge in iraq.
from abu aardvark i learned that maliki has flip-flopped and is now permitting construction to continue. maliki's blaming al qaeda for the anti-wall protests. but i suspect that's just a face-saving statement to cover his cave-in to american pressure. because maliki's now signing off on the project, we can all pretend that iraq is sovereign again.
