giuliani's latest commercial

i think rudy! is more of a punchline than a candidate, but this new ad of his (video here) makes me wonder: is this the first time that a candidate is running an ad attacking the press' coverage of the race? does that count as negative advertisement? or does the ad have to criticize someone else who is running?
