incompatible

iian goldberg argues that bush's goals of pushing through a security arrangement for iraq and holding the iraqi provincial elections in the fall are incompatible with each other (at least if you want the iraqi elections to go in any direction that bush would consider a "success"). i agree.

but the more pressing issue is whether president bush is dealing with reality enough to notice the problem. when he's surrounded by a bubble of advisers feeding his iraqi fantasies, i doubt he has the wherewithal to avoid walking right into another debacle in iraq.
