The Latin alphabet continues its march through Central Asia.
I wonder if Kazakhstan is going to try to invent a new Latin-based alphabet for its switch or if it will go back to the one that was already developed during the Soviet period and used between 1929 and 1940. I have never understood why most former Soviet Republics doing this switch have to make up something new when there is an off-the-shelf solution in their own history. Was there some problem with the script used in the 1930s?
