It was puzzling to watch the Randa Jarrar kerfuffle unfold over the weekend. I simply do not understand why anyone would call for her to be disciplined in her work because she tweeted a mean thing about Barbara Bush.
Even if you are biggest BB fan in the universe and thought she was totally wrong, um, who cares? People are wrong on the internet all the time. Why would people be so moved by a random person they never heard of before expressing a different opinion of someone that they would go after her like this? It makes zero sense. It makes even less sense for the media to jump on board or that California State University, Fresno would be receptive to that pressure when they gave her tenure and thus are legally barred from disciplining her for something like this.
