I honestly think the best, perhaps only, real chance for the opponents to defeat the Kavanaugh nomination to the Supreme Court is if the Senate gets too jammed up dealing with a government shutdown and the related budget (and apparently immigration) negotiations to hold a vote before the next election, and then the Democrats win enough seats to take the Senate in November.
Neither are likely to happen. But even if both do, I wouldn't put it past Mitch McConnell to ram through Kavanaugh in a lame-duck session. So even shutdown chaos paired with a Democratic wave in the Senate might not stop him.
