Of course it’s no surprise that some MAGA hat-wearing moron attacked a reporter at yesterday’s Trump rally. But maybe news organizations should consider why they are sending reporters to these rallies at all. I realize that anything the President of the United States does is generally considered to be newsworthy, but really, after covering dozens of these things since he became president, can you name anything that really makes them worthy of anything more than the most cursory coverage?
I’m not saying news organizations should be scared away by threats of violence. I’m saying even if there were no such threats, it’s just not worth their time to send a crew there. If news organizations stopped showing up, I bet the president would demand that CNN et al be there.
