The usual reasons for letting Trump off the hook don't apply to him

The usual explanation for why the U.S. lets powerful people get away with so many crimes are that: (1) the powerful tend to do white collar crime, which can be harder to prove than something more straightforward like a murder or robbery, and (2) powerful people get top-notch lawyers which makes getting a conviction even harder.

Neither of those apply to the crimes of President Trump. Sure, his offenses are for crimes that can be hard to prove, but those things should not be a concern when you consider that Trump keeps admitting he intentionally cheated on his taxes on video. And despite all his resources, Trump hires remarkably incompetent counsel, people like Rudy Giuliani, Sydney Powell, and Bruce Castor (the former prosecutor who fucked up the Cosby conviction).

If the usual reasons for impunity for our elites doesn't apply to Trump? Why isn't he indicted yet? Are we just letting him off out of habit?
