There are a lot of reasons to feel sorry for the people of Afghanistan. But it was really terrible luck to suffer a major earthquake on the same day that there was a huge attack in Israel. I've seen discussions about how little foreign assistance they are getting that attributes that to the isolation and lack of recognition of the Taliban government. But I really think that while the quake might have been a big story that would have generated donations, it got buried because it first hit on the same day of the Hamas attack in Israel.
