mugabe's epidemic

cholera is one those diseases that only kills people when there's a serious breakdown in society. treatment for the disease is oral rehydration, all that requires is potable water, salts and sugars. the fact that zimbabwe is facing a cholera epidemic is just a testament to how far that country has fallen. and that's largely the result of the disastrous rule of robert mugabe.

it's really a remarkable turnaround. mugabe was once slated to go down in history as one of the great african leaders. while he was heroic in the era of african independence, he was far from it in the era of african democratization. 10 years ago he could have retired as the father of a nation. now he's the guy who wrecked it.
