My main concern is that, even if they were sensible, sending military advisers and leaving the door open for military strikes has too much potential to lead to further commitment in Iraq. That is particularly true given the large number of political bobbleheads who have been consistently wrong on Iraq but are nevertheless still respected for some reason who are constantly pressing for a more violent U.S. response. So what could be viewed as sensible now is also a first step towards more American senselessness in Iraq.
