there’s been a lot of talk about whether the u.s. is building permanent military bases in iraq.
one small solace to the anti-permanent base people like me is that it looks like anything u.s. contractors build will be too shoddy to last long enough to be called "permanent." forget riders to appropriations bills, the most effective way to make sure there are no permanent bases in iraq is to let the bush administration contract out the job to its cronies.
