I understand why so many Republican Representatives are running for the exit. They see the Democratic wave coming and expect to lose if they try to run for reelection. But what about Trey Gowdy? His district is in South Carolina, a state that will stay reliably red even under the most optimistic "blue wave" scenarios. Why did he suddenly decide to retire?
