self-pardons

I do not understand how there could be no court decisions at all to answer the question whether the president can pardon himself. The president isn't the only one with a pardon power. So do (I believe) all governors of all 50 states and several U.S. territories. In the past 240 years there have been hundreds of governors and countless corruption scandals.

Surely at least one of them tried to pardon him/herself! There has to be some kind of precedent for this even if a president has never tried it. I might not know what it is, but it has to be out there.
