The benefits of hagiography

Will Bill Barr be Attorney General because George HW Bush died? A week ago, it seemed like Trump had no idea who to appoint for AG. Then Bush died and, the day after the funeral in the midst of the over-the-top Bush I hagiography that always accompanies a presidential death, Trump appoints Bush’s AG to that position.

Was Barr in the running before this week? Or was he already one of the finalist and all the Bush nostalgia pushed him over the top? We will probably never know. But I do know that just about every article about Barr’s current nomination includes a photo of him with the first President Bush.

(why should this “article” be any different?)
