As much as I hate the Freedom Caucus, their analysis of the situation is correct. With a Democratic takeover of the House just a couple of weeks away, this is their last realistic chance to get any wall funding. Plus, as bad as it is to get blamed by the public for a shutdown, no one will remember December 2018 by the time they next get a chance to vote. And they should not have any fear that forcing a shutdown will damage the GOP brand, that brand has already taken a fatal hit with everyone other than its right-wing base, having attached itself to an unusually unpopular president. Getting blamed for a shut down is not going to hurt them any more than being the party of Trump already has.
I hope they fail in their effort to engineer a shut down. But it makes sense from their perspective. I'm also glad this is a z-list blog with no influence. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't be posting this.
