The Iowa Democratic Party is Not Running for President

The Iowa caucuses were apparently a total shitshow. If you want the primary system to be democratic, the caucuses are always something of a shitshow, but last night Iowa exceeded even the most optimistic shitshow expectations.

The Trumpies are, of course, pouncing on the debacle to claim that Democrats can't be expected to run the country. No one should be surprised they would make the claim (that's politics), but at its heart the argument is completely bogus.

If the Democrats recapture the presidency, the people who are "running the country" will be one of the candidates in the Iowa caucus and his/her people. In other words, those future leaders are the victim of the Iowa caucus debacle, not its perpetrators. If any officials of the Iowa state democratic party have any role in a future Democratic presidency, it is likely to be pretty minor. They will not, by any stretch of the imagination be "running the country."

It's also funny because you only have to look back a few years for an example of a Democrat in the White House. For all of the Obama Administration's problems (and there are many), I think most would agree the current administration is a lot more disorganized and dysfunctional than the Obama White House ever was.
