Now more people can see that the State of the Union is stupid

Back when I started this taco stand, saying the State of the Union Address is not worth watching counted as a bold out-of-the-mainstream position. But these days, all the Kool Kidz are doing it. Is this blog cutting edge or what?

The SOTU address has always been a farce. It has always been a vapid political spectacle devoid of meaningful policy consequences. In the past the farce was wrapped up in all those pomp and tradition that people didn't notice what a transparently empty gesture it was. By dispensing with the pomp and making the partisanship more overt, Trump has just made more obvious what the modern SOTU has always been. I'm hoping Pelosi's decision drop any pretext of respect will end this stupid tradition once and for all. From now on, everyone is going to feel more comfortable making overt gestures of disrespect towards the President during the speech. Eventually some President is going to decide it isn't worth it. And maybe they will go back to just quietly sending a written status report to Congress like the Constitution intended.

But I doubt it.

Behold my whine cellar, documenting 16 years complaining about this dumb tradition: 200420052006 20072008 2009201020112012201320142015201620172018 2019
